No less than the topnotch Radiologist of St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City spoke on the significance of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in an event held at Panda Tea Garden Suites, this city on August 3, 2013.

Dr. Irma David-Kintanar, Lead Neuroradiologist and PET-CT-MRI Specialist Radiologist, was recently tapped as Consultant Radiologist by the Bohol Medical Care Institute (BMCI) as it offers the first MRI in the province.

Dr. Kintanar will work hand-in-hand with the facility’s in-house Radiologist, Dr. Reuel Relampagos, who is also an MRI Affiliate Radiologist at Cebu Doctor’s University Hospital in Cebu City.

An MRI is a test that uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to make pictures of organs and structures inside the body.  Unlike X-ray or CT-scan, this procedure does note make use of ionizing radiation.

It was learned that with an MRI, it is possible to gain information about the different types of tissues that are present. The difference between normal and abnormal tissues is often clearer than on a CT-scan.

The BMCI, a non-stock non-profit entity, is a proud joint undertaking of the Provincial Government of Bohol, FCB Foundation, Homereach Foundation, and DYRD Inyong Alagad Foundation.

The facility is open from Monday to Friday, 7:00 to 5:00 pm and Saturday, 7:00 to 12:00 nn. Other services include laboratory, x-ray, ultrasound, mammography ECG, dialysis, and ambulatory surgical procedures. It may be reached a 501-9524 for inquiries
